On Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th June 2017, students in Year 6 attended the Community and Road Education Scheme (CARES), which was held at the CARES Education Centre, Creek Road, St Marys. The program aims to educate students on bicycle and road safety.
CARES is a total road safety education program created to assist in the reduction of risk, injury and death for young road users. It has been specifically designed for school children in years 4 to 6, which is one high-risk category of road users.
The CARES program officer instructed the students in basic road rules and the skills necessary to enable survival when riding a bike on the road. The officer taught the students in how to become responsible road users now and in the future. During the program, students got to ride on a simulation circuit and use the road rules and skills they had learnt.
