Year 4 Focus on Friendships

This year, Year 4 have grown in their friendship with God and others. We have had Ps Matt Rau come and visit us regularly throughout the year to encourage us in how to be a good friend. This week his focus was on how we communicate using ‘I’ statements instead of ‘you’.  Following this, Year 4 were asked what they could do to be a better friend and to find a Bible verse that would encourage them to be a friend like Jesus. Here are some of their thoughts and Bible verses.

  • Angelina Huxley - I can put others first by letting them choose the game, giving options and helping them feel better. John 14:15 If you love me, you will do as I command.

  • Ethan Scott - I can give my friends a chance by being kind, listening and focusing on them. Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

  • Alicia Weir -  Friendship is very important and you shouldn’t just think about yourself. Proverbs 27:17 You use steel to sharpen steel and one friend sharpens another.

  • Daniella Bennett - I can be a better friend by including other people’s ideas and using ‘I’ statements to say what I think. 1 John 4:18 Perfect love casts out fear.

  • Jake Kennedy - Friendships should be a strong collaboration between a couple of people who like to play with each other. Be strong and courageous. Joshua 1:9 Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

  • Alita Elias - I can use kind language by being kind and speaking like God would. Galatians 5:13 Serve one another in love.

  • Nathan Gombakomba - I can stop getting angry at my friends, be kind and try to solve problems and have more fun. Proverbs 18:24 A true friend sticks closer than one’s nearest kin.

  • Evie Hall - I can put others first, letting them choose a game and help them when they are feeling down. John 14:15 If you love me, you will do as I command.

  • Molly Dal Santo - I can be a better friend by letting others talk and by helping others. 1 Peter 4:8 Keep loving one another.

  • Mia Goodhart - I can be a better friend on the playground by being kind and playing fairly. Galatians 5:13 Serve one another in love.
