Some News from Sport (Week 9, Term 2, 2018)
There have been many sporting achievements and sporting activities during Term 2. The following are some highlights:
Congratulations to Matilda Telfer and Tyler-Eve Mair (both from Year 6) who were selected in the NSW Combined Independent Schools Primary Girls Touch Team to compete at the NSWPSSA State Touch Football Championships to be held at Cronulla in August.
Congratulations to Clay Blight of Year 5 who was named a Shadow Player in the NSWCIS Primary Rugby League Team. Clay is hoping to be called up to the CIS Team to compete at the NSWPSSA Open State Rugby League Championships in Week 9 of Term 2.
Congratulations to Lachlan Whitehouse (Year 10) who was named in the NSWCIS 15 Years Rugby League Camp Squad earlier this term. Unfortunately Lachlan sustained an injury and had to withdraw from the camp and was not selected in the final team.
Congratulations to Olivia Galea (Year 2) who competed at her first ever Gymnastics Competition at the Christian Schools Sports Association (CSSA) State Gymnastics Gala Day this term. Olivia performed magnificently on the day and proved she is not just a fish in the pool. She placed equal 1st in Level 3 Division 1 competition overall, including first place in her Floor Routine. A wonderful effort Olivia.
A great effort to our students who represented CSSA at the NSWCIS Secondary Touch Football Trials in Week 8 – unfortunately none of the students were selected in the final teams but certainly did themselves proud. These students were:
15 Boys – Harrison Green and Bailey Collins (Year 8)
15 Girls - Adelaide Telfer and Isabella Hall (Year 9)
Open Girls – Sophie Dunsire and Katie Dal Santo (Year 10)
Our two Athletics Carnivals were held a few weeks ago. The weather held out for the Primary Carnival and also for most of the Secondary Carnival which was a real blessing. We are still finalising results for the Secondary Carnival as a couple of events were not completed and Javelin is being run at school. A full report including Age Champions, House Champions and New Records will be published before the end of term.
A huge thank you to all the parent helpers and students and other volunteers and staff for their help in running the Carnivals – the days do not run without a great team effort.
Students who have qualified for Zone Athletics will receive notes in Week 10 of this term and this will outline all information about these events.
Primary Zone Athletics – Thursday 2 August at Harold Corr Oval, Cambridge Park
Secondary Zone Athletics – Wednesday 8 August at Blacktown International Sports Park
