PCS Swimming Carnivals 2020
The year has started off with a splash with four swimming carnivals over the past five weeks of Term 1. We have seen some great school spirit, awesome results, and a number of new records across these carnivals.
YEARS 3 TO 6 SWIMMING CARNIVAL
The 2020 Years 3-6 (and a few Year 2s) had their swimming carnival in Week 3 at Ripples St Marys. The forecast for the day was overcast with the chance of a storm. However, we started the day with clear weather and the students all turned up enthusiastic and ready for a great day. Despite a slightly later start, we got underway and it was great to see so many students having a crack at the early events. We saw some records go throughout the day, and it was awesome to see so many kids cheering each other on.
The day began to become darker as time passed and we watched the clouds and some lightning in the distance approaching. We changed the program slightly and pushed through to try get all our Zone qualifying events completed in time. The storm got closer, and as we were running out of time, we managed to finish the boys 200m IM. Lightning struck close by and we had to stop the carnival for safety reasons.
We were able to send the girls 200m IM inside to the 25m pool where they were able to complete their events. The rain came down very heavily and the storm went on for about 45 minutes, and many students left with families. Unfortunately, we were not able to do the relays or some other novelties, but we managed to get some students to do a 25m swim later in the day before heading back to school.
We will be doing House Cheers as part of a Sports Assembly in a couple of weeks’ time in which we will present Age Champion Medals.
House Points
This will be announced at the Sports Assembly (the House Cheer Points are included in the overall points score).

NEPEAN ZONE PRIMARY SWIMMING CARNIVAL
The 2020 Nepean Zone Swimming Carnival was held at Glenbrook on a lovely looking day – after pouring rain in 2019 and a scorching hot day in 2018. PCS sent a team of close to 30 students from Year 2 to Year 6 to compete, and they certainly performed to a very high standard and achieved some outstanding individual performances, as well as winning three out of the four relays on the day.
Our students were great supporters of each other, cheering each other on throughout the day. PCS was named Champion School on the day, winning by 108 points over second place Mamre Anglican School – well done PCS!!!!

YEARS 7 TO 12 SWIMMING CARNIVAL
This year, we had the Carnival in Week 4 at Penrith Ripples instead of Week 1, which made preparation a bit easier for the PCS Sports Department. The day was a lovely day, not too hot, although another storm was forecast.
It was great to see many students turn up in House Colours, including all of the Year 12s. There were some great efforts in the pool throughout the day; we saw one new record and great efforts by some students to finish races even whilst struggling. The annual Year 12 Novelty Race was certainly a spectacle to see.
We were again facing time pressures with a storm approaching and we raced through some events to try and beat the impending storm which did not eventuate – a bit of rain came down and that was it. We moved on to our House Relays and Iron Man/Iron Woman events which are always a great spectacle. It was great to see the awesome teaching team of Mr Grice, Mr Gentile, Mr Peters and Mrs Ure come home strong to win the Senior Relay.
This year, we added House Points on for students who assisted throughout the day and this contributed to their overall tallies. The winning House was Caleb House, followed by Daniel and then Joshua House.
Age Champion Medals will be presented later this term – more information to follow.

NEPEAN ZONE SECONDARY SWIMMING CARNIVAL
The Nepean Zone Carnival was held at Mt Druitt Pool in Week 5 in very trying and wet conditions. The weather played havoc with sound systems and made life very challenging for all involved. PCS sent a team of around 45 students, as a few were away sick including some of our older students which was a shame. However, our students all performed well on the day and achieved some excellent results and they cheered each other on, especially during the relays, with which we broke two records!
The day was a success, largely due to the efforts of Richard Galea, one of our PCS parents who is President of Blacktown Swimming Club who brought his awesome timing system, and some of his officials, to ensure the day ran smoothly. Despite having some students away, PCS placed 1st overall on the day – by 138 points over Mamre – well done Team PCS!!
