NSW Premier's Reading Challenge
Students at PCS once again have the opportunity to take part in the Premier’s Reading Challenge. The Challenge is a special initiative of the Premier of NSW presented by the NSW Department of Education to foster a love of literature and to encourage children to read widely for leisure and for pleasure. It is open to all students from Kindergarten to Year 9 in 2019.
For students in Kindy to Year 2, the challenge is to experience 30 books by 30 August, 25 at least of those books should be chosen from specific booklists. and up to five of the books can be their own choice.
NOTE: Experiencing a book means that the K-2 child may either read the book themselves, or have the book read or shared with them in a joint reading situation and it still counts towards their Premier’s Reading Challenge records.
For students in Year 3 to Year 9, the challenge is to read 20 books by 30 August. At least 15 of those books should be chosen from specific booklists, and up to 5 of the books can be their own choice.
Booklists can be found on the Premier’s Reading Challenge website, however all books in the library are clearly marked with PRC age-levelled stickers. Students may also use books from public libraries or books they already have at home. Certificates will be presented to students in early December.
A note with a more detailed explanation will soon be sent home with your child, including all login details. There is information and booklists on the PRC website at www.schools.nsw.edu.au/premiersreadingchallenge. Children may start their Challenge reading straight away.
We look forward to a great time doing the Premier’s Reading Challenge.
