Mr Andrew Hutchinson – Tour Manager for the Australian Schoolboys Rugby League Team tour of the UK
Congratulations Mr Hutchinson on your wonderful achievement to be selected as the Tour Manager of a national touring team. Hutch has worked tirelessly in promoting sport, and in particular, NRL amongst our Christian Schools.
See below for more information about the Tour and Mr Hutchinson's role.
Mr Bruce Nevill
We go into a 3-day camp from 17 November - 20 November and fly out on 20 November to England and return on 17 December. The tour will consist of five matches - three Tour Matches and two Test Matches against the England Academy. We will be flying into London for three nights, but then head off to Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Leigh, Keswick, back to Leeds, before heading back to Manchester; we fly home from there.
We are taking 22 of the best Schoolboys Rugby League players in the country, selected at the Australian Secondary Schools Rugby League National Championships in July. We will also have a team of eight officials consisting of: Coach, Assistant Coach, Team Manager, Tour Manager, Trainer, Physio, Doctor, plus the President of the ASSRL.
It is a tremendous honour to be selected for this role. I have been involved with CIS Rugby League for over 20 years now and with the Australian Secondary Schools Rugby League Council since 200. Last year I was encouraged to put my name forward for this role by a couple of people and here we are.
A vote was held at the ASSRL Council General Meeting a couple of weeks ago to select the Team Officials. I was in attendance at this meeting so was quite nervous, but was over the moon when the President of the ASSRL read my name out as the Tour Manager. I’m very much looking forward to the trip - working alongside some very experienced staff and some up and coming Rugby League stars - some of whom will most likely be playing first grade in the very near future. My main responsibility will be in liaising with the tour companies, the coach and medical staff to locate training venues, assisting the Team Manager with set up for game days, organising group check-in for flights, supervision and compiling information for a Tour Report. There will be some sightseeing to organise, although this will most likely be in the first few days, before spending the rest of the time preparing for matches; I’ll also be a bit of a gopher for various errands throughout the trip.
It will be a busy trip, but it will be such an amazing opportunity and learning experience for me as well. I am very grateful to my wife and kids for also encouraging me to apply (well Belinda did anyway - kids not as excited) and also to Bruce who approved my application and has been very supportive of me in the roles I have had with CIS Rugby League.
