Junior School learn with ‘Ditto the Lion Cub’

Last week Junior School was visited by Ditto the Lion Cub from Bravehearts.

Bravehearts is a Queensland based organisation whose vision statement is ‘to make Australia the safest place in the world to raise a child’. The children were taught about Ditto’s rules for being safe and what those rules look like in a practical and engaging manner. The rules are:

  • We all have the right to feel safe with people.

  • It’s ok to say NO if you feel unsafe or unsure.

  • Nothing is so yucky that you can’t tell someone about it.

The principles for personal safety that underpin the program are:

  • Differentiating ‘yes’ and ‘no’ feelings

  • Recognising the body's ‘warning signs’

  • Body ownership

  • Helping children identify language and feelings associated with secrets

  • Reinforcing that there is no secret that children cannot tell someone

  • What to do if you feel unsafe or unsure.

These rules and principles have been introduced to our students this year as part of our PDHPE program. Our Christian perspective for this program is based around our belief that every life is a precious gift from God and that God has a plan for every child and it is our responsibility to nurture and care for them.

Thank you all for your support and prayers this year. We pray your family has a joy-filled Christmas and that you have many opportunities to make great memories together.
