Girls Rising 2017
On Thursday 16 November 2017, PCS hosted our fourth annual Girls Rising event. Close to 550 Year 10 girls (and teachers) attended from 13 public and private schools across the wider Nepean area - they were polite, encouraging, attentive, engaged and collaborative.
The aim of the day was to inspire the girls to be BOLD, BRAVE, and BRILLIANT.
Our MCs, Bethany and Emily, did an awesome job and held the day together beautifully (and Emily provided a great testimonial to the girls). Special mention to Sarah Pena for entertaining the crowd at the beginning of the day with her beautiful singing!
Thank you to our 'purple shirt' team from PCS for pitching in everywhere and anywhere, and to our AV guy Tim for helping everything to run smoothly.
Girls Rising 2017 was held at St Marys Band Club - The Bandy, providing us with a yummy morning tea and lovely, accommodating staff.
This is the 2nd time we've had the privilege of hearing from Jessica Fox at Girls Rising. At 23 years of age, with 2 Olympics and World Championships under her belt, she is such an inspiration for our Girls Rising attendees (and a genuinely lovely person!).
A lovely moment at Girls Rising 2017: a group of girls from one school began an impromptu singing session at lunch time, and then a group from another school joined in. It embodied the spirit of Girls Rising, which is not only about the empowerment of each individual girl, but also an encouragement to each girl to support one another (as one speaker told us, 'we are a sisterhood'!). It was beautiful singing and a lovely example of the Girls Rising messages in action.
Girls Rising simply would not happen without the support of our sponsors;
Firstly, a massive thank you to our major sponsor for Girls Rising 2017, St Marys Band Club - The Bandy for the venue and catering. The food was lovely and the venue provided a great atmosphere for this event.
