From the Principal - welcome to 2018
Dear Parents and Guardians
It was wonderful to see our students returning with enthusiasm and expectancy today as we began our 2018 school year.
I would like to extend a big welcome to all our new families and students, and pray you settle in quickly, and enjoy the many challenges and opportunities we offer at PCS.
The beginning of the year is always a whirlwind as we launch the year with Swimming Carnivals and Years 7-10 Camps and Seminar Week for students in Years 11 and 12. This month is a full calendar with P-8 Meet the Teacher evening on 20 February, Junior School Parent Helper Information Session on 13 and 22 February and a Parent Seminar on 27 February. There’s something for everyone.
There are many plans underway for events this year and we will communicate details closer to each event. I am excited about the many opportunities that our students (and parents) will have to engage in rich and relevant learning across the School.
With the retirement of a number of staff and the moving on of others at the end of 2017, it with pleasure that I introduce you to the new staff to PCS: Mr Steve Grice, Assistant Principal – Operations and Student Learning; Mrs Melanie Woods, Head of Junior School; Mrs Evie Burry, Kindergarten Teacher; Mrs Gayle Kidd, Year 1 Teacher; Mrs Samantha Dawkins and Ms Skye Welsman, Year 3 Teachers; Mrs Joanna Tabone, Middle School Core Teacher and HSIE; Mr Damien Jenner, Mathematics Teacher; Ms Marianne Pogmore, Mathematics and Science Teacher, Mrs Mary Shelley (returning from Maternity Leave), Mathematics Teacher; Mr Richard Mahoney, Laboratory Assistant; Mr Sean Castle, Acting Head of HSIE; Mr Martyn Ellis, TAS Teacher; Mr Daniel Favretti, PDHPE Teacher (Term 1); Mrs Rebekah Smith (returning from Maternity Leave), PDHPE Teacher; Mrs Heather Roberts, Acting Education Support Assistant; Mrs Talitha Treasure, School Counsellor – K-4; Mr Danial Ollis, Teacher Librarian, iCentre Manager and Mr Nathan Matthews, Maintenance Officer.
In addition to the many new faces to PCS, there has been movement amongst current staff into new roles: Mrs Jenny Mahoney, Head of Spiritual Development and Curriculum Continuity E-12, and Middle School Core Teacher; Mrs Kirsti Brady, Extension and Enrichment (Boost) Teacher and Mrs Jenni de Villiers, Education Support Teacher E-4.
The Early Childhood Centre has been up and running since mid-January, and we have a large number of children enrolled in both the Preschool and the Prep School programs. In Early Childhood we welcome Mrs Juliet Aboagye-Hill to the role of Preschool Teacher (Monday to Wednesday) and welcome back from Maternity Leave Mrs Jennifer Sovaleni as Preschool Teacher (Thursday and Friday). Also new to Early Childhood is Mrs Kristen Marais as Early Childhood Educator.
The first day of the school year is almost behind us. Thank you to all who have contributed to making this start a smooth one. We look forward to the learning journey ahead of us into 2018.
