Education Support Assistant (casual)

Penrith Christian School is a well established and vibrant Christian community, providing an exciting and innovative learning environment for over 850 Preschool – Year 12 students in our 21st Century Learning Facility at Orchard Hills.

 

THE ROLE

As an Education Support Assistant you will contribute to the provision of a quality educational service by assisting and supporting teachers to provide effective support for students who have been identified as children with special needs or disabilities. 

 

This is a casual role providing assistance when our permanent staff are on leave.

 

The successful applicant for this position will:

  • Demonstrate an authentic Christian faith with active involvement in a local church or Christian fellowship.

  • Be passionate in living out their faith in their teaching and relationships.

  • Have or be working towards a Certificate III or Diploma in Education Support.

  • Hold a current First Aid qualification (desirable)

 

Experience with autistic children will be viewed favourably.

 

MAIN FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Our current Education Support Assistants carry out the following duties:

  • Supporting Teachers and students by attending sporting activities and school excursions.

  • Assisting with the management and stocktaking of special education equipment and resources.

  • Communicating effectively and displaying high level of interpersonal skills to function as an effective team member.

  • Providing anecdotal information on students to the Head of Education Support for use in reviewing student’s progress and development.

  • Displaying confidentiality, tact, reliability and sensitively to students and their families.

  • Clerical assistance duties including duplicating and photocopying teaching materials, developing resources etc. during designated administration times.

  • Assisting in the supervision of education activities, under the direction of a teacher.

  • Assisting teaching staff with playground supervision.

  • Contributing to the welfare, health and safety of students including the delivery of first aid if necessary.

  • Displaying respect and empathy for students with high level needs and assisting students with special needs.
