Thank You PCS Community - From the Principal

At the end of the first week of the resumption of all of our students to on-site face-to-face learning at Penrith Christian School, I wanted to take the time to acknowledge the huge part you have all played in the continuation of education during the past couple of months.

Almost overnight our worlds changed. Initial media references to a virus overseas suddenly became an all-encompassing world changer for us as well. The news of people getting sick and then passing away with this dreadful virus became very confronting and real, not only globally but locally as well. Government decisions to address the spread of the virus, together with health authorities giving more grim details consumed our conversation, media and personal decisions.

For us as an educational community, and you being a vital and valued part of it, suddenly there was a subsequent colliding of worlds where the previously more defined roles of parent and educator became much more synergised.

To this end, I want to take a moment to recognise the remarkable achievement you have made over this time.

Not only were you facing massive change and disruption to your work and family lives in response to the impending restrictions and warnings, but all of a sudden you were faced with the fact that your children were now going to be staying home and learning via a remote platform, and that you would need to facilitate this happening successfully!

This was unexpected, and on its own was difficult to process. I know that some of the decisions you saw coming from the School during this evolving situation had more dire implications on your lives than you would ever have wanted.

I want to thank you for having the confidence in us and for being patient and supportive.

Whilst not an ideal situation, our obligation was to make sure everyone was safe and still had the opportunity to learn – even though through a very different landscape.

I hope you have felt supported by us as a School. We have certainly worked hard to keep you informed and provide quality learning experiences for all our wonderful students.

I recognise the challenge this was for you as parents and want to thank you deeply for the role you played in working alongside us in teaching and learning.

Yesterday I met with all the Captains, Vice Captains and School Leaders from Junior and Middle School, to get some further insight from the student perspective, about this roller coaster journey they had been on over the past couple of months. They have given me their highlight reel, their real challenges and their considered evaluation of how this experience might frame how they move forward in attitude and action. This was invaluable and I am appreciative of their conversation.

We know that we are not completely through the revised lives we are now living because of the virus. There is still a journey ahead. I want to reiterate the offer made to all our families to let us know if we can help you because of changed financial situations.

Overall, I want you to know how much we value you and thank you again for entrusting your children to our care daily.

Yours in Christ
