Boost Enrichment Program

The Penrith Christian School Boost Program (Preparatory to Year 12) encompasses two arms: Boost Learning Support, and Boost Extension and Enrichment.

Penrith Christian School recognises that it requires a whole school approach and commitment to meet the needs of all students in the Boost Program.

BOOST LEARNING SUPPORT

In every school, there are students who may experience difficulties with learning. These difficulties may vary in cause, nature, intensity and duration, and arise at any time throughout a student’s school life.

Students experiencing difficulties in learning will have differing levels of educational need, which may require the provision of one or more educational support services over varying periods of time.

The Boost Learning Support Program aims to assist students to achieve their full potential by:

  • Developing a whole school approach to identifying and assisting students with learning difficulties
  • Helping students develop a positive attitude towards learning
  • Assisting mainstream teachers to cater for students with learning difficulties in the regular classroom
  • Providing support to students as appropriate in the inclusive mainstream classroom, through small group work and/or withdrawal, and through 1:1 instruction and the aid of an Education Support Assistant
  • Offering assistance to teachers in programming, assessing, evaluating and creating resources for students with learning difficulties
  • Communicating strategies to classroom teachers to assist students with learning difficulties to better cope with the learning environment
  • Liaising with teachers, parents and other professionals involved with individual students to prepare and provide feedback on programs
  • Maintain close communication between the School and parents of students with learning difficulties.

BOOST EXTENSION AND ENRICHMENT

Within our school community, there are students who have particular gifts and talents, and we recognise that these students require extension and enrichment opportunities.

It is our priority that the curriculum for gifted and talented students is academically rigorous, intellectually stimulating and sufficiently flexible to meet their educational, social and emotional needs.

The Extension and Enrichment Program aims to assist students to achieve their potential by:

  • Developing a whole school approach to the identification and awareness of gifted and talented students
  • Helping students develop a positive attitude towards learning
  • Offering assistance to teachers to cater for gifted and talented students through the use of appropriate and effective teaching practices such as differentiation of programs, assessments, evaluations, etc.
  • Provide a range of appropriate programs and opportunities for gifted and talented students in the classroom, across the school and in the wider community, that develops appropriate thinking skills and enhances learning styles
  • Liaising with teachers, parents and other professionals involved with individual students in order to prepare and provide feedback on programs
  • Maintain close communication between the School, and parents of gifted and talented students.
